Veterans Day service set for next Saturday

The American Legion Post 19 will be hosting a Veterans Day service at the Veteran’s Memorial Park (Big Flag Park) Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The public is invited to pay tribute to our veterans that have and continue to protect our land of liberty.

Everyone is invited to the American Legion Post for refreshments after the service.

VFW hosting Veterans Day dinner

Veterans Day is to honor all who have ever served in the United States Military. Memorial Day is to honor those who gave their lives while serving in uniform. Armed Forces Day is to honor all citizens currently serving in uniform.

The officers and members of John Franklin Shain VFW Post 2313 and it’s Auxiliary, extend an invitation to the citizens of Mineral County to attend our Veterans Day Celebration Luncheon, at our post home at 890 A Street, in Hawthorne.

The luncheon will begin at 12:30 pm, Saturday, Nov. 11, following the Veterans Day Ceremonies at Veterans Memorial Park. On the menu will be BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken or a combo of both, savory sides and desserts.

The meal will be free to all veterans (veteran or military I.D. required) and an $8 donation for non-veterans. Takeouts will be available and the post canteen will be open to the public.

Please join them to celebrate your freedom and “our day”. Thank you for your service to our Nation.

free Thanksgiving dinner slated for nov. 17

Celebrate Recovery is having a free Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church located on the corner of 5th and C Street.

Celebrate Recovery is for anyone who is struggling with a hurt, habit or hangs up.

Come and see what celebrate recovery is all about. Everyone is welcome.

VFW Featuring UFC Fights Saturday

The VFW will be featuring the UFC Fights, Saturday, Nov. 4. Finger foods will be available for a donation.

The VFW will open at 5 p.m. They invite all veterans and guests.

Come join local veterans for an enjoyable evening with family and friends.

Angel Tree/Toys for Tots Applications Available

It’s that time of year again. Christmas is just around the corner. CAHS is continuing to sponsor the annual Mineral County Christmas Angel Tree Program, in conjunction with Toys for Tots, with Tamara Bunch.

If you are the parent or guardian of “Needy-Low Income Children” and are in need of a Christmas present for your child/children, CAHS invites you to come in and fill out an application for your child/children to receive a gift for Christmas. An application will need to be filled out for each child in the family. Proof of income will also be required for the application. The income guidelines will be posted.

Applications are available at CAHS now through Nov. 17. All applications need to be filled out and returned to CAHS no later than Friday, Nov. 17 the Angels will be placed on the trees for adoption on Monday, Nov. 20. CAHS is located at 924 5th Street.
