Following a tough loss to Virginia City, the Mineral County High football team rebounded with a big win at home over Smith Valley.

The two teams traded blows throughout the night, but the Serpents were able to pull ahead late for the 72-54 win.

Mineral County improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the 1A Northern West Conference with the victory. They now sit tied for third place with three other teams, Excel Christian, Smith Valley and Coleville. Virginia City and Whittell sit atop the standings at 2-0.

Up next, the Serpents will look to make it two straight when they take on Sierra Lutheran at 7 p.m. tomorrow night in Hawthorne.
