Free flu shot clinic set for Oct. 19

A free drive-thru flu clinic will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Hawthorne Fire Department from 5-8 p.m.

The community health nurse, in conjunction with public health preparedness and the Hawthorne and SOC Fire Departments, will be holding a free drive-thru immunization clinic. This clinic is open to anyone, age six months and older that wishes to have a flu vaccination. Parents must complete a consent form for children younger than 18. There is no charge for this immunization and anyone that has not received the flu shot is encouraged to come in and get one.

Rsvp driver training course on tap

Anyone can volunteer. They don’t have to be retired or a senior citizen.  Volunteers come from all walks of life and all backgrounds, with a shared desire to offer their time and energy to those in need.

RSVP will be providing a driver training course in October, at the UNR Extension Building at 205 A Street, Hawthorne.  Sign up for the course with Gay Ann Williams, Field Representative. She can be reached at 945-1010 or cell number 722-7669.

They need drivers for our transportation program. A background check is necessary to be a driver.  This program is for veterans, disabled and seniors.

State 4-H Leaders Forum Oct. 27 in Reno

The State 4-H Leaders Forum will be held Oct. 27-29 at Circus Circus in Reno. New and experienced leaders will come together to learn new skills related to the 4-H project and club work, meet and network with other leaders and become familiar with new 4-H concepts and guidelines. The forum will feature opportunities for fun, hands-on learning and the sharing of ideas, challenges, and solutions. Mineral County leaders are urged to contact the local extension office for more information.
