Charles “Coach” Duncan

On Nov. 23, 2016 Charles “Coach” Duncan of Baytown, Texas and formally of Hawthorne, Nev. and Moline, Ill. passed away from a short battle with cancer, with his wife of 47 years by his side.

Charles was born Feb. 23, 1941 in Trinity, Texas to Seth and Louise Duncan. In 1968 Charles came to Hawthorne where he was stationed at the Naval base as a Marine. It is here where he met and married Christy Ethington on July 23, 1969. Charles loved the mountains, fishing, hunting, coaching softball, track and football.

Charles leaves behind his wife of 47 years Christy Duncan; two daughters: Kimberly Duncan-Wheeler and DeEtta Duncan-Dvorak; son: Jeremy McCabe and his wife, Teanna McCabe; brother: Mike Duncan and six grandchildren: Devin Ketelsen; Kelci Hill; Ty Hill; Jonathan Wheeler; Miles McCabe and Cole McCabe along with several nieces and nephews and mother-in-law DeEtta Ethington.

Charles is preceeded in death by father: Seth Duncan; mother: Louise Duncan; father-in-law Albe Ethington; brothers: Joe Duncan and James Gentry; along with grandson, Austin Duncan.

Charles is now serving his final tour of duty as a Marine, as the Marine Corps Hymn says, “If the Army and Navy ever look on the Heaven’s scenes they will find the streets are guarded by The United States Marines.”
