Walker Lake has finally begun to receive water through Walker River.
The water has been flowing through the river in Schurz.
Walker Lake Working Group reports that the water coming into the Weber Reservoir at 305 cubic feet per second and leaving out at 253 cubic feet per second. Glenn Bunch, with the Walker Lake Working Group, stated that through the siphon it was measuring 189 cubic feet per second.
The Walker River riverbed had been dry for many years but once the water reached the lake, it has been coming in at 108 cubic feet per second.
It is unknown how long the water will continue to be released from Weber Reservoir.
Why are there so many illegal low level dams installed in the Walker River between Yerington and Schurz? These dams are easily visible from the highway. Who is in charge of making sure the Walker River flows freely to Weber Reservoir and on to Walker Lake?
Thank you
This is such wonderful news and I hope it continues for sometime.
