Jason Cardenas – Whittell controlled the tempo of Friday night’s game from opening kick and knocked off Mineral County 60-18.

The Mineral County High football team suffered a 60-18 loss at the hands of Whittell last Friday evening in Hawthorne.

The Serpents were celebrating their Homecoming, but it was the Warriors that would feel at home after jumping out to a large 26-0 lead after the first quarter.

Serpent quarterback Brandon West was able to connect with Andre Davis on a pair of touchdown passes late in the first half to cut the lead, but the Warrior offense was too much to handle. They led 40-12 at the break and went on to outscore the home team 20-6 in the second half to pick up their sixth win of the season.

Mineral County fell to 4-3 overall with the loss, and 4-2 in conference. They now sit a half game behind Whittell for second place in the 1A Northern West division.

Up next, the Serpents host Coleville (6-2, 4-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Excel Christian (5-2, 3-2) Oct. 28 at home on senior night.
