Free Drive thru flu clinic Oct. 20

A free drive thru flu clinic will be held Oct. 20 at the Hawthorne Fire Department from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Community Health Nurse, in conjunction with Public Health Preparedness and the Hawthorne and SOC Fire Department’s, will be holding a free drive-thru flu immunization clinic. This clinic is open to anyone, age six months and older, that wishes to have a flu vaccination. Parents must complete a consent form on children younger than 18.

There is no charge for this immunization and anyone that has not received the flu shot yet is encouraged to come in and get one.

Swiss Steak Dinner, 5K Walk, Bean Bag Tournament, Raffles at VFW

The VFW Auxiliary announces that the seventh annual Leonard Schaar Memorial Kick in for Cancer event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22. Serving a Swiss steak dinner $7 from 5 to 7 p.m.; along with a 5K walk, a bean bag tournament, luminary memorial walk, silent auction and music. (See ad in this paper for details).

We are also selling raffle tickets which are $5 each with three prizes: 1st – $500, 2nd – $100, 3rd – $50. Get your tickets from auxiliary members or at the VFW after 5 p.m. every day. Proceeds benefit cancer aid and research with a small portion to the VFW building fund. Please come support this very worthwhile event.

Walker River Paiute Tribe Hunting Permits

Walker River Paiute Tribe Natural Resources Hunting Permits are now available at the Four Seasons Smoke Shop. The hunting season permits are from Nov. 1 through Feb. 2. Animals legal to be hunted are: ducks; mergansers; geese; swan; coot;, moonhens; snipe; dove; quail; chuckar and rabbit.

Regulations are available at the same location. Trapping is also available for beaver only. If you have any questions, you may contact Conservation Officer: Andrea Martinez at 775-773-2002.

Christmas Bazaar Set for Nov. 12

The annual Christmas Bazaar, sponsored by the Catholic Ladies Guild, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12,  at the Hawthorne Convention Center, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  There will be an abundance of shopping opportunities, with many of your favorite crafters returning, as well as a number of new-comers.  The ladies will feature their popular bake sale, and the kitchen will be open all day, offering soup, chili, chili dogs, hot dogs, pie, nachos and cheese and more.  Coffee, water, and sodas will also be available.

Santa Claus will be seated in his decorated corner of the lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with photographer Tony Hughes on hand for your special photos.  Don’t miss this opportunity to delight all ages!

An all-cash raffle is now underway, with prizes of $300, $200 and $100.  Tickets are $1 each or $5 for a book of six.  Tickets are available from any member of the guild and will also be sold at the door on the day of the bazaar.  The drawing will take place at the close of the event on Nov. 12.  You need not be present to win.
