Depot Hall of Fame ceremony on tap

The Hawthorne Army Depot will hold an Ammunition Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7 on the front lawn of Building 1.

The ceremony will honor former employee, Louis Dellamonica, as he will be posthumously inducted in the Ammunition Hall of Fame.

The Ammunition Hall of Fame program is managed by the HQs, Joint Munitions Command in Rock Island, Ill. to honor the significant and lasting contributions of former ammunition sector employees in the U.S. Army.

Dellamonica is remembered for being one of the longest serving civilian in federal service. He retired from the Depot in 2007 with 65 years of federal service and provided superior expertise in the field of engineering and operations.

His accomplishments and dedication will be honored by his upcoming induction into the Ammunition Hall of Fame.

Search and Rescue meeting tonight

Mineral County Search and Rescue will meet for its September meeting this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Mineral County Courthouse. Items for discussion will be the 911 Mt. Grant Challenge parade and firework parameter control from Sept. 22 to 24.

Question 2 town hall meeting slated

A town hall meeting regarding Question 2: Nevada Marijuana Legalization Incentive will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the El Capitan in the upstairs room.

The Coalition of Mineral County in coordination with the Mineral County Sheriff’s office and Drug Free Communities will host. Jim Hartman, President of Nevadans for Responsible Drug Policy will present, “Get the Facts on Question 2: What it is and what it isn’t.”

This educational program is open to all members of the community. Light refreshments will be served.

 

CATHOLIC LADIES CHRISTMAS BAZAAR NOV. 12

This year’s annual Christmas Bazaar, sponsored by the Catholic Ladies Guild, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Hawthorne Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Crafters who participated last year will receive notices in the mail.  Others wishing to participate may call Jean Justus at 945-2206 to request a table.  Table rentals will again be $20 each.

All participants are encouraged to make their reservations early, as space is limited and tables go fast.

 

Class of 1967 50-year reunion meeting

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. at the VFW (meeting room) there will be a meeting of members of the Class of 1967 to discuss plans for a 50-year class reunion to be held Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 2017. Please come out and help in the planning of this reunion.

90th birthday celebration set for Sept. 4

Friends and family invite all to help celebrate Della Young’s 90th birthday on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 11:30 a.m. following worship service at Community Presbyterian Church, 7th and F Streets, Hawthorne.

Bring a dish to share for the potluck lunch.  Cake and ice cream will be provided.

Worship starts at 10:30 a.m. and everyone is invited to join us for worship before the party!
