Airborne Ranger and his monster truck “Death From Above” will be on hand for this weekends boot drive in Hawthorne.

A boot drive will be held on Saturday and Sunday in remembrance of Sept. 11. This year, funds raised will be donated to Warriors Heart, an organization that Shannon Chidester, who is charge of the event, says helps soldiers, law enforcement and first responders with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.
The event will be held at Wagners Ace Hardware parking lot beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
“Come down and help us donate for PTSD for Warrior’s Heart. We will have Airborne Ranger and his monster truck here to sign autographs and to take pictures. Donations will be accepted,” Chidester said.
He explained, “We (the old timers) started boot drives before Sept. 11. Right now, Al Ferrell and I are some of the old timers left. In keeping with tradition, we keep this going for a good cause. Originally we started the boot drive for support of the Fireman’s Ball.”
Airborne Ranger and his truck, “Death From Above” are not new to Hawthorne. Both were here for Armed Forces Day this year. Airborne Ranger has been in the Mineral County area for years but in a different truck.
“All the money goes to Warrior’s heart. Every dime. This if for military, police and first responders. All three. This is what I like about it. It helps all three,” Chidester concluded.
