The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Mineral County area that will be in effect through Friday night.

Temperatures in the low 100s are forecasted throughout the weekend, with the hottest day expected to be Saturday at 103 degrees. According to the advisory, 103 to 108 degree highs are possible in the area, with overnight lows in the upper 60’s.

The weather service warns that the hot temperatures will increase the risk of heat related illnesses, and to use precautions if you have to be outside during the day.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances as cars can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

The extreme highs are expected to drop briefly at the beginning of next week before returning on Wednesday and Thursday.
