Heidi Bunch –
The El Capitan Lodge & Casino will be celebrating its 75th anniversary with a variety of events this weekend, including a part on F Street Saturday evening.

Situated in the heart of Hawthorne, the El Capitan Lodge & Casino has withstood the change of times, economic and social barriers and has welcomed many faces through its doors.

In celebration of their 75th anniversary, the business will have a weekend full of fun and festivities.

The Fast and the Furious Slot Tournament began on Wednesday night and will end Saturday.

Food vendors and bands will be located on the pool side of the El Capitan from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. until Saturday night, featuring local bands such as: Art Jones Band and Dock 6.

In an effort to give back to the community, a poker run, hosted by the casino, will begin Saturday morning with all proceeds to benefit Mineral County Search and Rescue.

The El Capitan will be celebrating its 75th anniversary this coming weekend.

We decided to throw an old-fashioned street party and close F Street between 5th and 6th street directly in front of the pool.

General Manager Glenn Carns said, “The band stand is up and ready for our local bands. We have invited local vendors to join for a local family atmosphere for the town.”

Information regarding events can be directed to Amie Clark at 775-945-3321, extension 5306 or 775-385-0278.

In closing, Carns explained, “This is an event we hope to continue and grow each year so that outlying communities will come to Hawthorne for the event as we show off our local values.”
