Early registration for Hawthorne Pop Warner will be held on Saturday, April 16 at the HDSOC building next to Ace Hardware.

Hawthorne Pop Warner is in their third year in Hawthorne and had approximately 50 youth sign up to play football or cheer in the program.

The benefits of Pop Warner are that there are no tryouts. Founded in 1929, the stability of the organization is focused on the youth of the community by teaching the fundamental skills and values that these young people will use on and off the field.

Besides praise on the field and sidelines, there is also awards given for academic achievement and players are encouraged to keep a 2.0 GPA.

Coaches and adult volunteers are screened and have background checks prior to being allowed to help. This safety measure also goes with the safety of the certified equipment. All coaches are required to attend regular and updated trainings.

The cost to participate in this program is $150 per child with a $125/multi-child discount given. Parents must bring a copy of the child(rens) birth certificates, copy of report card and health insurance information.

The football program is open to children from the ages of 7-11 weighing 50-115 pounds.

Cheerleading is open to children 7-13.

Heading up the Pop Warner board this year is Kristin Stinson who encourages parents to get registered early.

“I’m excited for this year’s Pop Warner program. I will be on the sidelines cheering the kids on,” Stinson said.
