From right, Hawthorne Army Depot Commander LTC Gregory Gibbons, Director Base Operations SOC Nevada Dave Larsen, Steve McBride and Martin Busby walk for a cause on Monday. They joined others in their walk to help raise awareness for sexual assault and harassment.

Monday, April 4, LTC Gregory Gibbons called upon all Army personnel, Department of the Army civilians and SOC Nevada’s management, workforce and their families to increase their participation in efforts to prevent sexual assault and sexual harassment.

An official Proclamation signed by the Commander was read from the steps of Building 1 and presented to every SOC Nevada employee on Monday. Immediately following the reading of the Proclamation, a “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” march through the depot and around the golf course was held. The walk provided an opportunity to kick off the month long awareness campaign and to unite members of the ACO staff, employees of SOC and the HWAD community in taking action to prevent sexual violence.

Next week the Army’s SHARP Team from Tooele Army Depot will provide face-to-face training for Army personnel and will follow up with participating in SOC Nevada’s “Cup of Prevention” awareness event to educate personnel on what can be done to prevent sexual harassment/assault. The “Cup of Prevention” event is open to all SOC Nevada employees and will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Training Center (Building 3) on the depot.

In addition to the Army’s SHARP representative, Mineral County’s Domestic Violence Advocate will provide information and materials during the presentation. In addition to the above noted programs, SOC Nevada has established a volunteer Sexual Harassment Prevention Team (SHPT) who will promote prevention activities throughout the month of April to include Teal Tuesday, Demin Day and ongoing awareness training and coordination.
