Mineral County residents are reporting that a phone scam is using local numbers to inform the caller that they have been chosen for a “randomly selected for a free – one-night stay at any 5-star Marriott Hotels.”

The caller is then prompted to press one to accept or two to be placed on a no-call list.

For those who accept, the caller is pressed for personal information, including credit card numbers listed in their names. Afterwards, the number of the caller is then used to send out further scam requests.

If an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is and callers are advised to simply decline or hang up from the call.

Marriott has claimed that their hotel chain does not place the calls.
