Christmas Eve day was chilled by a gentle flow of snowflakes, as “Noel” the snowman outside of Jerry’s Barber Shop on E Street looked on. The variety of potted junipers, cedar plants and pines, planted throughout Hawthorne’s main streets, were taking on a Christmas card appearance, with their red bows and individually decorated trees.

The silhouette of the kneeling soldier, seen on the outside wall of the American Legion building, offered a solemn remembrance for the soldiers away during this season.

The Victory Garden Club, in combination with the Lions Club and with the assistance of B & B Nursery, work in a harmonious effort to bring forth these seasonal town touches. As various individuals adopt a pot, each concrete tub transforms into its own display.

Those that participate in preparing the pots have expressed joy in watching these efforts bring smiles. The expressed view from the garden club is that it helps to beautify the town.

This group’s participation is appreciated all year, as businesses and individual’s continue to show their town spirit in these unique holiday decorations.
