Residents of Mineral County may have felt the ground move Saturday night as a small earthquake was recorded in the area.

The 3.3 magnitude quake happened just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 9. It was located about 12 miles northwest of Hawthorne near Walker Lake.

The Nevada seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada Reno reported the depth of the earthquake to be 12.40 kilometers.

No damage was reported as a cause of the quake.

Over 60 small tremors have occured in the area since, the largest a 1.7.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in the Mineral County area and clusters have happened in the past, most recently in 2011 when thousands of tremors hit just southwest of Hawthorne, including a magnitude 4.6
