9The Mineral County High girls volleyball team snapped a three game losing streak Friday when they knocked off Sierra Lutheran at home 3-2.

The Lady Serpents had been shutout in their previous matches against Coleville, Smith Valley and Virginia City, after they earned a double-header sweep of Excel Christian on Sept. 18.

Friday’s home win was Mineral County’s fourth conference win of the season, and they did it after falling behind early in the best of five series.

“They played really good games. The girls played well, supported each other as a team and came from behind to get the conference win,” said Mineral County coach Shelley Tweedy. “It was great team play.”

Tweedy was also pleased with the play she got off of her bench.

“Alexus Christie came off the bench to help her team with excellent service and play. The rest of the team played good, but Christie was a big reason why we won,” she said.

The Lady Serpents played at Pyramid Lake Tuesday and travel to Whittell this Friday. Mineral County currently holds a one game lead over the Warriors for the fourth spot in the IV Northern West Conference.

JV Girls win again

The Mineral County High girls JV team improved to 6-1 after recent wins.

“They are playing outstanding as a team. Great support. Rainey Knight and Trindy Isom are playing very well,” Tweedy said.
