An ordnance disposal team from Fallon safely detonated unexploded ordnance at the Hawthorne Heights apartments on Tuesday afternoon.

Residents of Hawthorne Heights were evacuated on Tuesday, Oct. 27 when explosives were found on the property.

Discovered in the laundry building of what was once the old Mineral County Hospital, a stick of dynamite and some rocket torpedo’s were located.

A team from Fallon Naval Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal arrived at the scene and was able to secure and detonate the items quickly so that residents could return to their homes.

Unexploded ordnance is not uncommon in Mineral County. Those who happen upon such items are urged to contact the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office. It is advised not to pick up or disturb the item in question.
