An airliner dumps retardent on a wildfire that is burning in the June Lake area near Lee Vining, Calif..

A human-caused fire has claimed over 3,000 acres of timer and brush just two miles southwest of Lee Vining, Calif.

Called the Walker Fire, it is located near Walker Lake in the June Lake area only 63 miles to the southeast of Hawthorne.

The fire had closed Tioga Pass over the weekend, but the pass is now open to unescorted traffic. A code red alert has been issued for the town of Lee Vining and everything north of the Double Eagle Resort in the June Lake area.

A popular fishing area for residents of Mineral County, anglers should be made aware that Lower Lee Vining Canyon; Moraine; Boulder; Aspen Grove and Big Bend campgrounds have also been closed.

471 personnel are on hand to battle the flame with 235 structures threatened.

Slight late night smoke has been in the Mineral County skies but are clearing out by morning. Travelers to the area should expect to see smoke along Highway 395.
