Ashari Shakir, former Mineral County High School student, was recently offered a full ride scholarship to the State University of New Orleans in Louisiana to play basketball.
Shakir was a Lady Serpent on the high school team in Hawthorne. She will be studying physical therapy or mass communications in college.
She is the daughter of Adrian Shakir of California and Sharon and Johnny Wilson of Hawthorne. Her other relatives include, Darlene Wilson and Doc and Lois Mitchell, all of Hawthorne.
Her brother, Joshua Johnson, lives in Berkley, Calif.
Shakir will begin the fall of 2015 in Louisiana.
