2A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust in Hawthorne last week after members of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle for not being registered.

Tracy Batts, sister of Mineral County Sheriff Randy Adams, was arrested Jan. 31 on drug trafficking charges after officers discovered 29.4 grams of methamphetamine (street value $3,500) in the 1986 blue Toyota she was driving.

According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, officers grew suspicious of criminal activity by Batts during the traffic stop and decided to search the four-door vehicle.

Upon being arrested she was transported to the Lyon County Jail for a courtesy hold due to her relationship with Adams.

In addition to trafficking a controlled substance, mid-level charge, Bates was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, DUI drugs and under the influence times four.

Her bail was set at $151,140.
