8The Mineral County High boys basketball team returns to the floor this weekend after a tough loss to Bishop last Tuesday.

The Serpents will host Pyramid Lake on Saturday in the teams conference opener. The Lakers are much improved with good size and a very good scorer in their point guard position. I believe the boys will match up well with the Lakers and I expect the team to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Bishop last week.

Mineal County had a fourteen point lead in the middle of the 3rd period against Bishop but couldn’t hold on in the end. Turnovers and poor shooting allowed Bishop back in the game that the Serpents led 26-23 at the end of the 3rd period.

Bishop took control of the momentum, and Mineral County had more uncontested turnovers that allowed the Broncos to get their offense rolling.

The younger Serpents carried the scoring load with Sophomore Jon Cromer leading the way with 13 points. Junior Isaiah Crowl added 11 points and Sophomore Taylen Wachsmuth had 6 points.

The JV girls will open up play on at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the JV boys will follow at 2:30 p.m. The Varsity girls will tip at 4 p.m., and the Varsity boys at 5:30 p.m. Go Serpents!
