Dear Editor,

Many of us heard the news story about the house fire the morning of Oct. 22 1:30 a.m. in Schurz. It was a total loss, they had no insurance, house was too old to be insured.

The family has other members living with them at this time: Shelly, daughter-in-law Nicole Sullivan, and roommate escaped in their pajamas. The families are in need of our help. Shelly’s son Austin, who lives at the house and Shelly’s husband Colt, a Schurz resident for 25 years was away at the time at a job out of town.

The family literally needs EVERYTHING, furniture, clothing, financial donations, household goods, dishes, towels, and sheets, everything a normal family needs to life.

We are challenging the citizens of Mineral County to help this family, Shelly and Colt Duke. We are including in this letter the sizes they need. If you would like to make cash donations to help the family call Shelly at 775-316-0921 or Bill at 702-205-3163. They have an account at Wells Fargo.

Shelly size 13/14, shoe size 8; Nichole size 17/18, shoe 10; Austin pants 36,38,40 waist will work, shoe 10.5 or 11; Colt pants waist 31, 32 x36; any tee-shirts, med, L, XL, 2X will work; need cat food and cat liter

In the picture Shelly and Colt in middle, Austin and Nicole are on the right and the roommate and her boyfriend/husband on the left.
Any of you who have suffered a fire know that it is a devastating and lasting change in your life. Please Mineral County lets reach out and help this family rebuild their lives.

We will be holding a fundraiser for them next week and we will have more information for you soon about that.

Sincerely,

Bill Purcell

Dear Editor,

My hat goes off to Golden Gate Petroleum.  Thank you for the generous monetary gifts, and bringing some 30 jobs to our community. We look forward to reasonable gas prices.  With prices almost a dollar cheaper in Fernley, and 70 cents less in Tonopah, we have been held hostage long enough.
