On June 18-21 2014 members of the Hawthorne Army Depot Fire Department participated in the 79th annual Nevada State Firefighters Training Conference held in Lovelock, NV.

The department represented the base and the community well as they attended many training activities, including hybrid vehicle technology and extrication instructed by Matt Stroud of MSG Tech., Seattle Washington. And rope rescue techniques instructed by the department’s own Jeff Moosman. They also participated in live burn training provided by the Nevada State Fire Marshal Training Division as well as several breakout sessions such as Electrical Safety and Bridging the Gap between Generations X, Y and Z instructed by Ron Roy of Wenatchee, Wash. and Legal Pitfalls in the Fire Service by Larry Haydu of Clark Co. Fire Dept. Mike Helbock of EMS Associates provided an out-standing general session on The Art of Professional-ism and Interactive Case Studies. He also instructed classes on both Adult and Pediatric Patient Assessment. 

The Depot Fire Department won the NSFA sanctioned water fights and all members participated in the manipulative skill competition where Chase Lawrence took 2nd place. They also participated and brought home several trophies for the fun events also including the Texas Hold-Em tournament scholarship fund-raiser and 1st place in both nights corn hole tournaments. The group was also awarded the “tail gate award” for the department that showed the most participation in all aspects of the training conference. The Hawthorne Volunteer Fire Dept. was represented by Dave Womack and Daniel Goodwin as well as Chief T.C. Knight and Sarah Dillard of M.C.F.D.
