Mineral County recently acquired a new team of public defenders for its justice system. The previous public defender, attorney Paul Drakulich of Fallon, chose not to pursue renewal of his contract.

Mineral County District Attorney, Sean Rowe, made the announcement. Rowe said that county commissioners decided to elicit bids for the contract. Four different law offices submitted proposals, and the commissioners awarded the contract to Wayne A. Pedersen Esq. of Yerington.

Rowe said that commissioners made the right choice with Pedersen. “Pedersen is one of the public defenders in Lyon County. He has a fairly established firm and he has in excess of 20 years’ experience.”

Rowe also said that Pedersen’s associate, LeAnn Schumann, is a former deputy district attorney of Mineral County.

“We’re glad to have the contract awarded to us. LeAnn has a history in Hawthorne and my father and I delivered milk to Hawthorne when I was six years old. It’ll be a pleasure for our firm to be there on a continual basis,” Pedersen said.
